A small lidded box carved from one block of soapstone, with the corners cut off to make an octagon. The outside was darkened and then scratched back by hand, so a pattern of circles and fine dots shows up in the pale stone underneath. The lid has an inner ledge, so it sits in place.

Inside, the stone is left raw and pale, with the carving marks still visible. Good for rings, a few earrings, or matches.
10 x 8 cm, height 5 cm.
Condition: good vintage condition. Small notch to one edge of the lid, a pale nick on the lid surface, and wear to the lower edges. The interior is rough-carved, as made.
